For fans that think so for those that think Kathleen Kennedy ruined Star Wars, I have some news for you. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger recently told Bloomberg: “We will take a pause, some time, and reset because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie.
“There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”
But why a hiatus? Was it just the Solo box office flop or maybe The Last Jedi backlash?
So it looks like Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars movies suddenly Has A Plan for a galaxy far far away.
LucusFilms President Kennedy has explained exactly why. In the Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars interview with Empire after the Episode IX panel at Star Wars Celebration 2019.
James Dyer revealed on the Empire podcast: “Funnily enough I asked Kathleen Kennedy this very question and she was quite candid.
“She said they learned their lessons from Solo; that doing two films in less than a year wasn’t something the fans were prepared to accept.
“And she’s hands up… ‘we made a mistake with that.’”
JJ Abrams Star Wars The Force Awakens box office numbers was a huge hit for Disney, making over $2 billion worldwide. The Rian Johnson Star Wars The Last Jedi box office numbers were $1.3 billion but there was also huge backlash over what Rian Johnson did with Episode 8 and Luke Skywalker. Solo A Star Wars Story arrived less than five months after The Last Jedi and the box office numbers were $392 million worldwide on a budget of as much as $300 million – following extensive reshoots, firing directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and hiring Ron Howards.
